What to Prepare:
-
1 minute of contemporary musical theatre of an upbeat Disney song. The auditionee must provide their own instrumental or karaoke track. A speaker will be provided but feel free to bring you own.

If auditioning for a Lead or Supporting role please prepare a one comedic monologue that focuses on story telling. If auditioning for general ensemble role please prepare a 30-45 second comedic mologue or poem.
Show Synopsis:
When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a
magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of
enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece
of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way.
Character Breakdown:
LADAHLORD:
Is a mysterious character who seems to have a hand in the magical things that
are happening. Though he may seem a bit off, he carefully watches over James, making sure
James moves towards a better life. Ladahlord also serves as a guiding narrator throughout the
story with massive energy.
Vocal Range: G2 - Gb4
JAMES:
Is the hero of our story, on an epic quest to find a family of his own and discovers
incredible bravery, cleverness, and warmth throughout the journey.
Vocal Range: G#3 - E5
LADYBUG:
Properly mannered, aristocratic, and impeccably organized, yet fiercely protective
of her new family. Immediately takes on a doting, maternal role in James' life.
Vocal Range: A3 - D5
GRASSHOPPER:
The warm and distinguished leader of the Insects, is ever the optimist and
assumes a paternal role in James' life.
Vocal Range: A2 - F#4
SPIDER:
Clever, fiercely independent, and glamorous, yet deeply nurturing. She becomes a
fun-loving older sister to James.
Vocal Range: B3 - C5
EARTHWORM:
Is a neurotically anxious and blind gentle spirit, although he can be a bit of a
coward. Luckily, he gains enough courage to save the day by baiting some gullible seagulls.
Earthworm looks at James as a brother figure.
Vocal Range: B2 - A4
CENTIPEDE:
May be a bit of a grouch, but he is ever-loyal to the pack, and by the end of the
story, he's won over by James. James sees Centipede as that cranky uncle with a heart of gold.
Vocal Range: G2 - F#4
SPIKER and SPONGE:
Are the sort of aunts (or monsters) that you fear ever being stuck with.
They take James into their home but only so that he can be their own personal servant. Spiker
is the brains of the operation, and Sponge is more concerned with finding something to eat.

Sponge Vocal Range: F#3 - E5
There are also a ton of fun supporting and ensemble roles!
Rehearsal Schedule
Starting September 8th, we typically will rehearse Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays
from 6:00pm - 9:00pm and Saturdays from 10:00am - 2:00pm at CoVa Church. Extended
rehearsals will begin November 2nd. November 2nd, 3rd, and 5th will be from 6:00pm -
10:00pm. November 7th will be from 10:00am - 2:00pm. November 9th, 10th, and 12th will be
from 5:30pm - 10:00pm.
Fridays are reserved for make up rehearsals. Sometimes CoVa Church is not available for us to
use during our normal rehearsal times. If this happens we will try to reschedule that rehearsal
on a Friday and we will give as much advance notice as we can.
Not everyone will be called to every rehearsal until we get closer to the performance and are
doing full run throughs.
Starting on October 19th all rehearsals and performances will be mandatory for all cast
members. November 8th, 9th, 10th, and 12th are our tech week rehearsals. With November
8th being our major set load-in day (mandatory for cast and crew ages 12 and up).
November 13th and 14th are our performance dates. A mandatory strike for all cast and
crew (13+) will take place after the November 14th matinee show. Any cast member 12
and under must have a family member represent them at Load-in and Strike.
There may be a preliminary Load-in day on November 1st but that is TBD.
All auditionees MUST submit their schedule conflicts for all Mondays, Tuesdays,
Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in September, October and the first 2 weeks of
November at their audition.
If Cast In Show
An offer letter with the role(s) you are cast in will be sent out on September 6th. All roles
must be accepted by 8:00pm on September 7th.

Students should be relatively independent readers, able to follow instructions, and
behave in respectful ways toward castmates, crew and production team (as outlined in
the KPCT Code of Conduct. Which can be viewed here.

Attendance at rehearsals is extremely vital to the process of putting together a show. All
cast members are expected to be at every rehearsal they are called for unless the
absence has been approved through their submitted schedule conflicts. Excused
absences are absences listed on the audition form and excused by the director prior to
casting. Unexcused absences are any absences not pre-approved. No absences are
permitted within two weeks of a production performance.
We understand that illnesses and emergencies do come up unexpectedly. Additional
absences may be approved if communicated to the Stage Manager in advance and must
be approved in writing. Not showing up to rehearsal, without communication, when
called is unexcused. One unexcused absence may be used at the actor’s discretion
throughout the season. More than one unexcused absence is grounds for being recast
or dismissed from the show entirely.
Registration and Performance Fee
Participation fees are $400 and include a cast t-shirt! This can be paid in full or we offer a
payment plan option: $50 due on acceptance of the role, the two installments of $175 due on
the 25th of September and October.
We also offer a sibling discount: full price for the first student and then 20% for each additional
sibling.
Registration and Performance fees are only due if cast in the show.
Helpful Tips:
- For your vocal audition, look for modern youth shows that require character acting, dynamic storytelling, and a pop-forward vocal mix.
Some good contemporary musical theatre examples: Matilda, The Lightning
Thief, Seussical, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, or Dear Evan Hansen
Some good upbeat Disney examples: The Greatest Showman, Moana, Hercules,
Tangled, or Newsies.
- For your monologue audition, choose a comedic and high energy piece that focuses on dynamic characters and storytelling.
- If auditioning for Ladahlord: Look for monologues where the character is a
carnival barker, a mad scientist, or a magician spinning a wild tale. They
need to command the room and captivate an audience.
- If auditioning for Spiker & Sponge: Look for over-the-top,
dramatic-comedy monologues. Think a spoiled brat throwing a tantrum, a
ridiculous boss making absurd demands, or a cartoon villain explaining
their plot.
- If auditioning for James or one of the Insects: Look for charming and
relatable comedy. Like a kid describing a chaotic school day, arguing with
a pet, or explaining a weird daydream. This shows warmth alongside the
humor.
- What to Wear to Auditions
We want you to feel comfortable, confident, and ready to shine! Please
follow these simple clothing guidelines:
- Be Comfortable & Clean: Wear "nice casual" clothes that you can easily
move around in. Nice jeans, slacks, leggings, simple shirts, or casual
dresses (with shorts underneath) are all great options. Please avoid
graphic tees or clothes with large logos.
- No Costumes, Please! As much as we love the characters in the show,
please do not come dressed as a peach, a ladybug, or any other character.
We want to see you!
- Keep Your Face Clear: Please style your hair so it is pulled back out of
your eyes. We want to see all of your wonderful facial expressions!
- Wear Safe Shoes: You must wear closed-toe shoes that stay securely on
your feet (like sneakers or flats). Please leave the Crocs, flip-flops,
sandals, and high heels at home so you can move safely on stage.

Volunteer Hours
Community theatre is entirely powered by the passion, energy, and dedication of its families. As
our theatre community continues to grow, so does the scale of the magic we can create on
stage! From building giant peaches to sewing costumes and ushering patrons, every single
volunteer role directly supports our young performers and ensures we can keep putting on
high-quality productions. Volunteering isn't just about getting the work done, it’s how we build a
supportive and connected community for our students.
To make James and the Giant Peach Jr. a spectacular success, we require a collaborative effort
from every family involved. Please review the volunteer guidelines below:
Volunteer Guidelines & Perks
- The 8-Hour Commitment: Each cast member’s family is required to contribute a
minimum of 8 volunteer hours toward the production.
- Who Can Volunteer: Hours can be completed by the cast member or any family
member who is 13 years of age or older.
- Earn Free Tickets: As a thank you for your time, families who complete their 8 volunteer
hours will receive two complimentary tickets to any performance of James and the Giant
Peach Jr.
- How to Sign Up: An initial list of volunteer positions and signup sheets will be available
at our upcoming Family Informational Meeting on September 8th.
- Important Note on Mandatory Dates: Load-In on November 8th and Strike on
November 14th are mandatory events for all families. Because these are required
of everyone to ensure the safety and success of the show, they do not count
toward your 8 hour volunteer requirement.
